Marina and the Diamonds + Cubic Zirconia

THURSDAY 2

Cubic Zirconia + Chin Chin + Gazelle

So we’re kinda on a musical journey through the 70s these days here in Zeitgeist World…our editor Paisley Dalton has been playing non-stop Disco (that fortunately has nothing to do with The Village People or Saturday Night Fever) and obsessing over old episodes of Soul Train on Centric TV. Heavy in rotation on the Bose is NYC’s own ‘ethnic disco’ trio Cubic Zirconia whose style edges shambolically anywhere between Tina Turner, Frankie Knuckles or 2 Live Crew. Check out all the rump shakin’ tonight! Chin Chin support. DJ set with Gazelle.

Union Pool, 484 Union Ave at Meeker St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-609-0484, 8pm

Marina and the Diamonds + Young the Giant

Marina (And The Diamonds) Diamandis is living, breathing, belting, vogue-ing proof of the unfathomable possibilities contained within organic pop in 2010. “I really couldn’t give a damn whether pop’s in fashion this week or not, I’d be writing the same music, regardless” she scoffs. Check out tracks from the Welsh singer’s debut album The Family Jewels tonight, including hits Hollywood and Oh No!.

Webster Hall, 125 East 11th St bet Third and Fourth Aves, NYC, 212-353-1600, 6pm, $25
