SATURDAY 4

QxBxRx: 5 Year Anniversary and Closing party

Homopunk party queers, beers and rears calls it quits on their fifth anniversary.

Parties have a high turnover rate in gay New York, often reincarnating, but rarely leaving a significant void in this cities nightlife landscape. But when Queers, Beers and Rears ends its five-year run with a blowout anniversary/finale party on February 4, it will leave a big, gaping hole in the gay party scene. QxBxRx, as it’s been affectionately known since launching at Cyn Lounge in 2007, was one of the few gay parties where you could hear live music, and possibly the only gay party left in New York that kept alive the DIY ethos of the punk rock scene. QxBxRx resident DJs Sir Loins, A. Martini and Go-Karff have played host to a diverse array of bands, from Pansy Division to Hey Will Power; from new projects by rock legends like Theo Kogan and Miss Guy to brand-new acts like Sick Cell and Little Victory. (via Next Magazine). Live performances tonight by Making Friendz, People At Parties, Two Tears, The Ruffian Arms and Baby Your Baby. DJs Luiza Sá (CSS), LGBT (Men)…and of course, Sir Loins, A. Martini and Go-Karff. WE WILL MISS U BOYS!!!

Nextah: Cubic Zirconia + Andrea Balency

After going strong in Brooklyn last year and winning  “Best Dance Party At A Dive” by The Village Voice, Good People’s Nextah party moves into Manhattan’s Drom. The first show of the year features a live performance by band Cubic Zirconia (Fools Gold Records), who will be shooting a music video on site at the party!  Joining the performance is very special guest Andrea Balency all the way from Mexico. Balency — a French/Mexican Red Bull Music Academy 2011 alum — has been making waves internationally with her multi-layered instrumental/pop tunes. She will be dropping her first record in early 2012. And, of course, you can always count on killer sets by Nextah’s residents DJs — Nick Hook (Fools Gold), Michna (Ghostly), and Project Matt.

Drom, 85 Ave A bet 5yh & 6th Sts, NYC, 212-777-1157, 11pm, $5
