Black Kids + Miles Benjamin + Anthony Robinson + Zambri

The Subversive indie-pop band Black Kids headlines tonight with debut album Partie Traumatic. Drawing comparisons to The Cure and Arcade Fire, and a band name that’s making a few people uncomfortable, the Floridian quintet seem to have a good gimmick and one hit single. Hope they can do a little soft shoe!

Santos Party House, 100 Lafayette St at Walker St, 212 714 4646, 9pm, $15

The Subways

We predicted two years ago that the cute love affair between Billy (singer) and Charlotte (bass/marginal singer) would end…and it did. What we couldn’t fathom was that the pale skinned UK band staying together and making another album! You crazy kids are such pranksters…

Blender Theater at Gramercy, 127 E 23rd St bet Park Ave South and Lexington Ave, 212-777-6800, 9pm, $15

She and Him + The Rosebuds + Freakwater

She and Him, aka actress Zoeey Deschanel and legendary lonestar M. Ward, are the newest indie pop couple of the moment, sans the rock n roll foreplay- no scissor kicks, no drugs, and no jail time- just two musical soulmates in lyrical folk love. The Rosebuds and Freakwater support.

20th Anniversary of Tompkins Square Police Riots

For the new Jamba Juice drinking, right winged New York, Tompkins Square Park, with it’s recently added doggy playpit, smells like progress and shit! There was a time when the city had more attitude and grit. Now it’s full of Stepford joggers. It’s been 20 years since police descended on TSP, clubbing anyone in sight in furtherance of a then non-existent midnight park curfew. Tonight the punks are back!!! Shows from Hammerbrain, Reagan Youth, Nihilistics, and False Prophets.

Tompkins Square Park, Ave A bet 7th and 10th Sts, noon, free
