Rick Owens Furniture
Although most of the edgy clothing that Rick Owens does ends up at the bargain store Century 21, apparently he’s paying his bills quite well with an abstract furniture collection.
An exhibition of furniture by the fashion designer, including entirely new pieces presented alongside older works, representing developing themes and mutating preoccupations in a powerful and genuine design expression are currently on display in London. The pieces are produced in small limited editions and are made from unusual materials—resin, bone, concrete, plywood (raw and stained), cashmere and fibreglass— the collection includes sofas, chairs, lighting and other pieces sculpted in austere architectural shapes. He was first inspired to design furniture in 2005 and this second show of his furniture cements his place as a powerful and exciting force in the world of design.
