Andre 3000 is Losing His Shirt

When the new issue of GQ magazine hits newsstands, Outkast’s Andre 3000 will be in competition with labels such as Save Khaki, Robert Geller, Yigal Azrouël, Shipley & Halmos, and Rogues Gallery for the title of The Best New Designer In America. While the high-end line has been praised by the likes of GQ and the New Yorker, the praise has not translated into increased sales.

A visit to Barneys.com confirms this weekend’s report by Whoohah.com that some of the items in Andre’s Benjamin Bixby collection have been cut to less than half their original retail price.

According to the exclusive report, “The problem is no one is buying the clothing line because of the high price point and no brand equity. As a result, the Benjamin Bixby clothing line has had to dramatically drop prices in order to move inventory and prevent retailers from shipping it all back to Mr. Benjamin.”

At press time, neither Andre nor any representatives from his Benjamin Bixby clothing line have responded to the reports of their sales troubles.

Just goes to show that just because you have good style, doesn’t mean you can be a good designer!
