1984 party

We can’t believe this night is still going on!!!…And that this venue still functions! If you can’t get enough of cheesy 80’s pop, and dancing like your having a seizure, put on your rubber bangles, your puffiest crinoline, and lots of ruby red rouge and beam yourself into happier times where many fantasies were learned…on that day! This week pays fromage to Janet Jackson.

Greenwich Village Antiquarian Book Fair

Bibliophiles, philobiblists, and good ol’ bookworms converge on the West Village for a chance to snatch up a few rare finds. From children’s series books (Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Tom Swift) to modern first editions, American and Civil War volumes to genre fiction and cookbooks- over 65 dealers from across the country set out to prove that reading a paperback feels so much better than a PDF file.

Verboten: Swayzak

Round two goes to Flawless! The scene media company with a client list that includes Calvin Klein, L’Oreal, Frederick Fekkai, and Vibe magazine is back with their second instalment of what is becoming NYC’s hottest party…in Brooklyn. UK DJ team Swayzak have been flown in to serve up a bit of “spotted dick” flavour. Plus…Robots’ Dennis Rodgers, Switch from Biatch, and resident Van Scott keep the local regulars happy with floor-fillers.

Paradise Garage reopens!

For those of you who wanna taste of what NYC was like before Giuliani “cleaned” up the city and made it impotent, before packs of wannabe Sex And The City Girls roamed aimlessly on their mobile phones, and before joggers woke up at 5am for a few laps around Thompkins Square Park, here’s a peak into a place that was the body and soul of the Big Apple. The legacies of the late Mel Cheren and DJ Larry Levan are celebrated on the dance floor with groove classics like “Heartbeat”, “Hot Shot”, and “Is It All Over My Face”. Work girrrls!
