AP Threatens to sue the Dude that Made the Obama Graphic
Apparently, the group is saying that Shepard Fairey owes them tons of money for his HOPE portrait that became the unofficial-but-iconic image of the Obama campaign.
The AP says, and Fairey openly agrees, that his image was based on a photo taken by an AP photog.
The AP says the image is copyrighted, and now they want money and credit from Fairey’s version of the pic. But Fairey says he’s covered under “fair use” a legal principle that provides specific circumstances under which copyrighted material can be used without permission or fees.
Fairey didn’t receive any profit from the image – all proceeds from sales of the poster were donated to the Obama campaign.
what a joke. Who are they asking money from… obama? get over it AP
