Has Project Runway lost its Strut?

The sixth season of the hit cable-television show Project Runway is in production without a parent network or a premiere date, because of dueling lawsuits by NBC Universal and the Weinstein Co.

Although Season 6 won’t be broadcast for months, if ever, the producers filmed an awkward finale during Fashion Week in New York.”We are all in a bit of a limbo,” the show’s host, model Heidi Klum, told the roughly 1,000 audience members, “and we hope that everything is sorted out very soon.” The Runway finales are normally a highlight of Fashion Week, which is held at Bryant Park in Manhattan twice a year. But the lawsuits cast a pall over the competition.

Jane Cha, an executive producer, said that the sixth season — the first to be filmed in Los Angeles, after five seasons in New York — was mostly unaffected by the legal dispute, save for the finale.

The legal wrangling started last April when, after five seasons on NBC Universal’s Bravo channel, the producers at the Weinstein Co. sold the rights to the series to another cable channel, Lifetime. That sale prompted a breach-of-contract suit by NBC and a countersuit by the Weinstein Co.

Meanwhile, the biggest loser here is Mood Fabrics. Remember them…they are the virtually unknown fabric shop that became famous over night…basically making the owners a shitload of cash. Well, they decided to open a Mood in LA, figuring they’d cash in on all the publicity the show brings. Unfortunately since there’s no show, there’s no cash, unfortunately making for a really bad Mood!
