AFROPUNK Fest 2014 feat. Meshell Ndegeocello, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Cakes Da Killa and More!
SATURDAY 23
Meshell Ndegeocello, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Lianne La Havas, Cakes Da Killa, Ice T’s Body Count, Trash Talk, , The AFROPUNK Festival is returning to Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park for the 10th year of a weekend of live music, vibrant art and good vibes on August 23rd and 24th.
Described by the New York Times as “the most multicultural festival in the US,” the word AFROPUNK itself has become synonymous with open-minded, non-conforming and unconventional, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music.
Adamant in promoting diversity, the festival stage is always studded with music’s most distinct acts. Rivaling those of the past, last years line-up featured New Orleans bounce artist Big Freedia, NYC’s downtown darling Mykki Blanco and festival veteran Saul Williams. Other notables were, blues-infused up-and-comers Vintage Trouble from Los Angeles and The Heavy from the UK, and hardcore punk band Trash Talk from Sacramento. Even Brooklyn’s own metal prodigies Unlocking the Truth and 2013 Battle of the Bands winners Meatloaf Muzik hit the stage. This isn’t to mention hip-hop heavyweights Danny Brown, Jean Grae and Chuck D—just a few more who held it down.
