One Step Beyond: Animal Collective + The Bunker: Seven Year Anniversary
FRIDAY 8
Animal Collective describes their music as ‘sonic, freeform, electronic, horror, gospel, hip-hop, soul, pop madness’…which could mean just about anything. After being alternatively present for the last decade, AC had a hit again in 2009 with single My Girls from the Merriweather Post Pavillion album. Tonite, two of the band’s members (Brian Weitz and Dave portner) attempt to pull off a smashing DJ set at the One Step Beyond party, presented by The Fader magazine.
American Museum of Natural History, Central Park west at 79th St, NYC, 212-769-5100, 9pm, $20-$25, www.myspace.com/animalcollective
The Bunker: Seven Year Anniversary
The kids over at The Bunker have been doing techno soooo long, it’s actually back in style! The original sequencer and synth sound came out of Detroit (although it’s a common misconception that the Europeans were the pioneers…wrong!!!) and at tonight’s big b-day blow out, DJs Luke Hess and Patrick Russell are being flown in (economy) from Motown to lend some credibility. And of course…the Euros…Newworldaquarium, Legowelt and newcomer Kadebostan from Geneva…and local heroes and hosts Derek Plaslaiko and Spinoza take turns tweeking the microprocessed crowd.
Public Assembly, 70 North 6th St bet Kent and Wythe Aves, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-384-4586, 10pm, $20, www.beyondbooking.com
