Sonic Youth + In God We Trust Sample Sale + Dreamscapegoat

Submitted by on Saturday, 31 July 2010No Comment

SATURDAY 31

Sonic Youth + Grass Widow + Talk Normal

After 16 albums, can Sonic Youth really still be an indie band? The 80s No Wave quintet were the champions of youth in revolt via angsty music, during a decade synonymous with frivolity. Although the bands members have changed-up a bit, the SY ethos, referencing French avant-gardist Brigitte Fontaine,  poet Patti Smith and punk legends The Stooges still remains. Check out some of their back catalog tonight at the Celebrate Brooklyn series…plus songs from current album The Eternal. Grass Widow and Brooklyn’s own post-punk enthusiasts Talk Normal complete the line-up.

Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell, 95 Prospect Pak West, Park Slope, Brooklyn, 718-965-8951, 7pm, $3 suggested donation

In God We Trust Sample Sale

It’s really difficult to explain what In God We trust is all about. Their store in Soho is kinda misplaced amongst all the quasi bourgeoise…it’s more like a well worn wing tip shoe that you found in your dad’s old porn trunk, but even with all the creases, burnt out soles and unidentifiable stains, it still really works! Discover it for yourself at their semi annual sample sale in the original location in Brooklyn…apparently they’re ‘Mad ill deals to be had’…their words!

In God We Trust, 70 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, 718-389-3545, Saturday and Sunday 12-8pm, www.ingodwetrustnyc.com

Dreamscapegoat

NYC nightlife icon Soigné Deluxe is putting on another bizarre multimedia production with members of the Dreamscapegoat Performance Troupe! Expect lots of psychedelia presentations, mind-fuck performances and the occasional fleeting moments of clarity. Participating artists include Elinor, Muffinhead and Soigné himself. Live art by Venus, Krystal Something-Something (pictured), Pollimorph and Brandon Olson.

Dreamscapegoat, 496 Broadway at Union St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 8pm, $10
