“The Museum of Modern Art has announced \u201cMike Nichols,\u201d a two-week retrospective of 17 films that surveys the wide range of Mike Nichols\u2019 directing career running April 14-May 1, 2009.<\/p>\n
Spanning more than four decades, the series comprises a collection of Nichols\u2019 most significant works in film, from 1966\u2019s \u201cWho\u2019s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?\u201d and 1967\u2019s \u201cThe Graduate\u201d to 2004\u2019s \u201cCloser\u201d and 2007\u2019s \u201cCharlie Wilson\u2019s War.\u201d The rarely screened films \u201cCarnal Knowledge\u201d (1971) and \u201cCatch 22\u201d (1970) open and close the two-week exhibition.<\/p>\n
The retrospective will screen at The Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters, and is organized by Rajendra Roy, The Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film, The Museum of Modern Art.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile remaining one of the most productive forces in the creative industries\u2014film and theater\u2014Mike Nichols\u2019 body of work is clearly one of the most referenced and revered in contemporary cinema,\u201d said Roy in a statement. \u201cHis ability to form lasting and consistently fruitful partnerships with writers and actors places him among the standard bearers for the great collaborative traditions of Hollywood. Emerging filmmakers have much to learn from the intellect and timeless humanity of Nichols\u2019 work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mike Nichols in Conversation, an \u201cintimate and informal conversation with Nichols and a select group of his closest writing and acting collaborators,\u201d including Nora Ephron, Elaine May, and Buck Henry, will take place at MoMA on Saturday April 18, at 8 p.m.”<\/p>\n
