If you’re from out of town, even if you are not a student anywhere,\u00a0 and want to experience summer in NY and study something hip, fascinating and relevant, sign up for this course. Professor Vivien Goldman<\/strong><\/a> has taught at\u00a0 the Clive Davis Institute<\/em>
\nsince 2006. She has also initiated and taught courses\u00a0 on Punk, Bob<\/em>
\nMarley, Reggae and Dub and\u00a0 right now, is teaching about Fela Kuti,<\/em>
\nthe legendary Nigerian activist creator of the Afrobeat sound,<\/em>
\ncurrently being celebrated in the “Fela! Musical”. A Londoner, she is<\/em>
\nknown as a writer, broadcaster post-punk musician, and author of five<\/em>
\nbooks, including two on Bob Marley (“The Book of Exodus,” Three Rivers<\/em>
\nPress\/Random House,)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Goldman brings a unique perspective to this\u00a0 course. A founding<\/em>
\nmember of prototypical synth-pop new wave combo, The Flying Lizards,<\/em>
\nand dubmaster Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound Possee, Goldman has<\/em>
\nco-written tracks for artists including Massive Attack, Coldcut,<\/em>
\nBerlin uber-producer Moritz von Oswald, Ryuichi Sakamoto (Yellow Magic<\/em>
\nOrchestra) and Luscious Jackson’s Jill Cunniff, and is part of the<\/em>
\ninfamous European Chicks on Speed art\/music collective. Her solo 45,<\/em>
\nLaunderette, co-produced with PiL’s John Lydon, is frequently<\/em>
\nre-issued on compilations like “Anti NY” and “Disco! Not Disco,” and<\/em>
