Marvin Hamlisch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19094\" title=\"marvin hamlisch\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zeitgeistworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/marvin-hamlisch-560x809.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"809\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zeitgeistworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/marvin-hamlisch-560x809.jpeg 560w, https:\/\/www.zeitgeistworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/marvin-hamlisch.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As composer, Hamlisch won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards.<\/p>\n<p>For Broadway he wrote the music for his groundbreaking show,\u00a0<em>A Chorus Line<\/em>, which received the Pulitzer Prize as well as\u00a0<em>They\u2019re Playing Our Song<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Goodbye Girl<\/em>\u00a0and<em>Sweet Smell of Success<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He was the composer of more than forty motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for\u00a0<em>The Way We Were<\/em>\u00a0and his adaptation of Scott Joplin\u2019s music for\u00a0<em>The Sting<\/em>, for which he received a third Oscar. His prolific output of scores for films include original compositions and\/or musical adaptations for\u00a0<em>Sophie\u2019s Choice, Ordinary People, The Swimmer, Three Men and a Baby, Ice Castles, Take the Money and Run, Bananas, Save the Tiger,<\/em>\u00a0and his latest effort\u00a0<em>The Informant!<\/em>, starring Matt Damon and directed by Steven Soderbergh.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hamlisch was Musical Director and arranger of Barbra Streisand\u2019s 1994 concert tour of the U.S. and England as well as of the television special,\u00a0<em>Barbra Streisand: The Concert<\/em>\u00a0(for which he received two of his\u00a0Emmys).<\/p>\n<p>Marvin Hamlisch held the position of principal pops conductor for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and Pops, Seattle Symphony, San Diego Symphony, The Buffalo Philharmonic and The National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of his passing he was working on a film project about Liberace, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon and directed by Steven Soderbergh.<\/p>\n<p>Hamlisch was a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and Queens College (where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree).
