“I started doing drag as an escape from the rigid gender roles that influence the culture here in Texas. When I was 17, I had my eyes opened to the world of drag by RuPaul’s Drag Race<\/em>, and immediately started playing with makeup. Over the past few years, I’ve developed my drag character, an alien trying to infiltrate human society, but who is having a difficult time negotiating the subtleties of human interaction. I’m very inspired by the different masks that we wear as humans, and how that changes over time and varies by culture. I’m working on a project right now that explores the story of Adam and Eve through the lens of drag, and how female beauty ideals are taught to women as a tool for influencing men.”<\/div>\n
