The notorious sketch comedy show <strong>Portlandia<\/strong> has recently been blasted for their popular bit <em>Women And Women First<\/em>\u2013 a depiction of a fictional feminist bookstore run by characters Candace (Fred Armisen) and Toni (Carrie Brownstein). Staff members at the actual store where the show is filmed, <a href=\"http:\/\/inotherwords.org\/2016\/09\/28\/fuck-portlandia\/\">In Other Words<\/a>, are no longer LOL\u2026and have banned the production from shooting there, saying on <a href=\"http:\/\/inotherwords.org\/2016\/09\/28\/fuck-portlandia\/\">their website<\/a> that recently,\u00a0after the Portlandia crew finished for the day,\u00a0the store was \u201cleft a mess, staff mistreated, neighbors forced to close and lose business for a day without warning, and repeated attempts to obtain accountability or resolution dismissed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael Stewart, a volunteer at the store, also posted the sign below in the store window, and took to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/m_r_stewart\/status\/781541139547430912?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">Twitter<\/a> to voice his opinion and outrage over the situation\u2026accusing Portlandia of trans-misogyny, racism, gentrification, queer antagonism and devaluation of feminist discourse\u2026OUCH!!!<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;In Other Words&quot; bookstore to Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armise: &quot;Fuck Portlandia&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EBlvyhK794\">https:\/\/t.co\/EBlvyhK794<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5RKmTM2bpD\">pic.twitter.com\/5RKmTM2bpD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Michael Stewart (@m_r_stewart) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/m_r_stewart\/status\/781541139547430912\">September 29, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Oh&#8230;and there&#8217;s more! The store and current board members also claims that they never agreed to let Portlandia shoot at there&#8230;and they consider the entire show &#8220;offensive&#8230;and a deeply shitty joke!&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Women and Women First segments that are filmed at In Other Words are trans-antagonistic and trans-misogynist and have only become more offensive as the show goes on. \u2018LOL Fred Armisen in a wig and a dress\u2019 is a deeply shitty joke whose sole punchline throws trans femmes under the bus by holding up their gender presentation for mockery and ridicule. In a world where trans femmes \u2013 particularly Black trans women \u2013 are being brutalized and murdered on a regular basis for simply daring to exist, dude in a dress jokes are lazy, reactionary, and actively harmful. They\u2019re also just straight up not funny.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They have also said that the show paints an inaccurate picture of the city because \u201cthere are no black people on <em>Portlandia<\/em>.\u201d The store, which hosts Black Lives Matter Portland meetings, say that the show has contributed to the city\u2019s gentrification, \u201cdisplacing the communities that made Portland a great place in the first place something\u00a0twee and whimsical for the\u00a0incoming technocrat hordes.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1FPFUrXbQgc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Stream Portlandia, Season 6 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/search\/portlandia?jbv=70185015&amp;jbp=0&amp;jbr=0\">Netflix<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looks like humor, funny ha ha, is officially over\u2026when it comes to anything queer these days!
