Nightclub, jazz, gospel and pop singer, film and television actress, and\u00a0ordained minister Della Reese<\/strong>, born July 6, 1931, is probably best known for playing the female lead (Tess) in television drama Touched by an Angel<\/strong>. She also appeared in hit pop culture television shows 227<\/strong>, Sanford and Son<\/strong>, The Love Boat<\/strong> and That’s So Raven<\/strong>…to name a few. And of course…her hilarious role in Harlem Nights<\/strong>, the movie which also\u00a0starred comedy legends\u00a0Eddie Murphy<\/strong>, Richard Pryor<\/strong> and Redd Foxx<\/strong>, in which she performed that iconic fight scene with Mr. Murphy (see below).<\/p>\n

In 1957, Reese released a single called And That Reminds Me<\/em>. After years of performing, she gained chart success. It became a Top Twenty Pop hit and a million-seller record. In 1959, she released her first RCA single Don’t You Know?.\u00a0<\/em>It became her biggest hit to date, reaching the #2 spot on the Pop charts and topping the R&B chart.<\/p>\n

On August 29, 2016, nearly two months after she celebrated her 85th birthday, Reese was said to be in failing health, following two brain surgeries, and her continuous fight with diabetes. She has retired from acting.<\/p>\n
