Over the course of his Presidency, he founded the<em> School of Veterinary Medicine<\/em>, the <em>Commercial Dietetics<\/em> program, and spearheaded the University&#8217;s engineering and commercial aviation programs. All of these programs uniquely situated African Americans and Tuskegee University in a position where they could provide highly skilled interns for prestigious internships in emerging fields.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 1940, Patterson founded the George Washington Carver Foundation, a non-profit organization that offered scientific research grants to African-American students. In 1944, he founded the United Negro College Fund, which continues to raise funding for historically black colleges and universities\u2014including Tuskegee University.
