Featuring Isla’s chilling vocals, and a spoken word piece by\u00a0Daphne Von Rey<\/strong><\/a> (House of Mizrahi), this latest track examines the thick skin<\/em> that females must cultivate, and maintain, in a patriarchal society. “With the recent attacks on Trans rights, the constant attack on women’s rights, and it being Transgender Awareness Month<\/em>, November was the time for release”, says Isla. “This song was inspired by the Venus Xtravaganza<\/strong> line in Paris is Burning<\/strong><\/a> “Touch this skin darling” … I wrote it while I was pregnant, and experiencing some challenges for myself. It speaks to the thick skin that females must build in order to survive patriarchy. Some of my trans sisters were critical in helping me through that phase, one of them being Daphne. This song moved her, so we gave her a section to write about her experience. For the video, we wanted to express motherhood in its many forms, so it only made sense to get Overall West Coast Mother Gia Mizrahi, Daphne’s House mother, to be the star. She is such a loving and compassionate leader in the community, we wanted to highlight their mother\/daughter relationship while highlighting my recent mother\/daughter relationship.”<\/p>\n
