Hilary Alexander: Bloggers vs Magazines

Submitted by on Wednesday, 31 March 2010No Comment

Recently, the online blog Swide, created by fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stephano Gabbana of Italian design house Dolce & Gabbana, spoke with Fashion Director Hilary Alexander of the UK’s Daily Telegraph about bloggers and if they were considered fashion editiors and if she sees the future of media as all digital or will there always be a need for actual print magazines. Her response: “I think we’ll always want a magazine because digital is fleeting. I think somehow it’s more personal. You feel it’s part of you.” We weren’t sure what Hilary meant by “fleeting” in reference to the digital age, so we rang her up to get clarification. She told us: “… digital is there one minute, gone the next; magazines linger.. they’re around you to pick up and browse or read.” Soooo, we’re still not sure if she’s totally in denial of the fact that online content is far from fleeting and is always going to be around, or if she’s just romanticizing the idea of print magazines. Or maybe she’s just trying to do her part to save the print industry that is just about done and dusted. Either way, we love you Hilary..respect!
