Bon Vivant: Photographs by Kenny Kenny

Submitted by on Saturday, 8 May 2010No Comment

SATURDAY 8

NYC nightlife gem Kenny Kenny has been the door person at ALL of the best parties in NYC for the last two decades. In recent years, he has teamed up with 90s club promoting diva Susanne Bartsch for the weekly Sunday soiree Vandam that is the reigning toast of the Downtown scene and new baby Amanda Lepore’s Big Top on Wednesday. Tonight, Kenny is putting on an exhibition of rare photographs of notable friends he’s partied with along the way. “The subjects are the others in society, they’re very much part of the puzzle, the mystery of life. Although society thinks of them as a lower caste, they defy gender and social norms and so I think they are like shamans, part of society though still separate, being the “others” they mostly follow their own rules and are an example to society to question its own norms. These people love to laugh, dance, dress up, celebrate, even though some have nothing and some are doing incredibly well.”

Collective Gallery 173-171, 173-171 Canal St bet Mott and Elizabeth Sts, 5th floor, NYC, 212-925-5520, 6-9pm, free
