M.I.A. featuring DJ Low-B + Holy Fuck

The UK dancehall-electro MC brings her girl galang to NYC. Often compared to her “BFF” Santi White aka Santogold, Sri Lankan Mathangi Arulpragasam brings street beats with social consciousness. Tonight she’s hooked up with DJ Low-B and Holy Fuck…hopefully that’s enough to help us forget her marginal second album.

McCarren Park Pool, Lorimer St bet Bayard St and Driggs Ave, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, 7pm

Saturday 06.07

Big Apple Comic Book, Art and Toy Expo

300 dorky dealers, ethereal exhibitors, and social misanthropics will be displaying the latest in toys, memorabilia, and comics. Special guest appearances from Richard Dreyfuss, Malcolm McDowell, and Chase Masterson…plus comic favs Andy McDonald, Ivan Brandon, Bernie Wrightson, and Gene Ha!

Penn Plaza Pavilion, 401 Seventh Ave at 33rd St, Saturday & Sunday, 10am, $15, www.bigapplecon.com

Glamdammit

It’s an homage to the glamourous and glittery 70’s!!! Think David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, and Iggy Pop accessorized with a syringe. Twig The Wonderkid and the Astronettes spin the best in rock, indie, and pop. Plus, NYC make up queens Michael T and Theo make an appearance (hopefully with drink tix).

Don Hill’s, 511 Greenwich St at Spring St, 212-334-1390, 10pm, $10, www.glamdammitnyc.com

Lightspeed Champion + Flowers Forever + The Explorers Club

Dev Hynes, champion of disenfranchised youth, returns with his current music project Lightspeed Champion and new album Galaxy of the Lost. The sound is chamber pop vs country folk…could be disastrous, but it’s really the coolest thing out right now! Flowers Forever and The Explorers Club open.

Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey Sy bet Bowery and Chrystie St, 212-533-2111, 8pm, $15, www.myspace.com/lightspeedchampion

Sunday 06.08

Puerto Rican Day Parade

It took us quite some time to find a pic of a Puerto Rican papi on the net without his cock out (we are a family friendly site!), but we got it…and he’s our pinga pick! Lucky for you guys, there’s an abundance of Latin lovers all over town today- It’s the Puerto Rican Parade! So get out your maracas and shake those balls!

Fifth Ave from 44th St to 86th St, 11am

Girls! Girls! Girls!

DJ Miss Guy has lived through many incarnations. From DJing at the 90’s New York polysexual party Squeezebox, to rocking out with her first band The Toilet Boys, she’s always remained a lovely bitter bitch under pressure. Tonight, she’s back to her girl clit-rock roots with a new night of all girl group music…it’s a metal muff stampede!!!

The Bowery Electric, 327 Bowery bet 2nd and 3rd Sts, 212-228-0228, 9pm, free

Gnarls Barkley + Battles

Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Green comprise the postmodern R&B pop project that is Gnarls Barkley. Known for their trippy disguises and shattering falsetto tunes, this duo is totally responsible for making 60’s inspired soul music hip again. Tonight features tracks from recent album The Odd Couple…and, of course, smash indie hit Crazy. Oh, and by the way…this is a Myspace secret show…you have to log on to www.myspace.com/secretshows and “add” yourself as a friend….then, wait by your computer for more details…good luck!!!

Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Plaza at 15th St, 212-777-6800, 8pm

These New Puritans + Effi Briest

Apparently inspired by The Fall, Franz Kafka, Wu Tang Clan, and an Elizabethan magician, TNPS seem to be a bit schizo. We guess that’s why Hedi Slimane commissioned them to provide a soundtrack for the Dior Homme Show 2007….she too is a bit askew!

Music Hall of Williamsburg, 66 North 6th St bet Kent and Wythe Aves, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-486-5400, 9pm, $15, www.myspace.com/thesenewpuritans
