Henry Rollins + The Very Best + Theophilus London
FRIDAY 12
Henry Rollins
We’ve followed the angry, sweaty, alpha-male career of Henry Rollins ever since his days as one of the front men for punk band Black Flag (there were actually others…ya probably didn’t know that, did ya?). But, unlike other manboys who continue to pretend they’re still in their 20s, hitting the road, trying to relive the glory days with a fist full of Levitra, Rollins has made a new career for himself as an activist for gay rights, a political blogger and a really cool poet! Check him out live tonight on his new Frequent Flyer spoken word tour.
Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place at East 15th St, NYC, 212-777-6817, 9pm, $40, www.henryrollins.com
The Very Best + Theophilus London
When London band Radioclit pulled a Madonna and adopted Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya, a new band that merged traditional African sounds with East London’s electro beats was formed. The Very Best say their sound is pop, but you’re gonna need a translator to be sure cause most of the lyrics are in Chichewa. They’re in NYC tonight with Theophilus London.
American Museum of Natural History, 79 St and Central Park West, NYC, 212-769-5100, 9pm, $25, www.myspace.com/theverybestmyspace
