Is Zeitgeist World Editor ‘Paisley Dalton’ the Inspiration for Rootstein’s Manorexic Mannequins???

By now most of you have heard about the ‘manorexic mannequins’ story that came out in New York Magazine recently. If not, here’s the tea!… NYM put out a blurb about a new wave of ultra skinny male mannequins, set to debut next month. Apparently, the dolls, created by the renowned Rootstein Mannequin company, are getting thinner (27″ waists and 35″ chests) and are being hailed as the Androgyne (a.k.a. Homme Nouveau). This is really a non-issue for us…mannequins are not real! They’re made of fiberglass, polystyrene and wood and can’t have eating disorders (unless you’re the mannequin ‘Emmy’, played by Kim Catrall in the 80s flick Mannequin) . But what we did catch is that one of the cross-sexual figures looks A Lot like our editor Paisley Dalton…especially the wiglet hairdo! Paisley’s been scene for a minute now, and if you’re remotely in fashion and not blind, you’ve seen him all around NYC. Paisley’s iconic look was created by hair stylist Bryan Marryshow and has been constantly photo-documented. In fact, Japanese photographer Kosuke Matsuo dedicated a whole issue of Boka magazine last September to the many looks that Paisley works on the streets of New York everyday. So, we think Rootstein should give Paisley a nod for clearly providing inspiration…just like they did for other cool kids like Agnes Deyn, Coco Rocha, Pat Cleveland, Twiggy and so many others that model fashion and those that reference style. Let us know what you think…Has Rootstein copped Paisley’s look??? Check out the images (Courtesy of Boka Magazine)below:

PR firm for ROOTSTEIN reponds:

While we certainly appeciate Mr. Dalton’s fabulous style, Mr. Arpino of Rootstein was inspired to create the ‘Young and Restless Mannequin’ line by the legions of fashion forward men and models who wear and grace the runways of Dior, Rick Owens, Raf Simmons, etc….as well as the followers of mass chain American Apparel. The mannequins were specifically created after 20 year old Polish model Tomek Szmulewicz, star of the Calvin Klein 2009 global denim campaign, 19 year old British newcomer and Topshop show talent Sam Bennett, modeling phenomenon 18 year old German born Dennis Dromer and the US sensation known simply as Brandon, 19. The vision behind the collection draws directly on the lifestyles of the boys. Warmest regards, Roger Padiha.

Thanks for the response guys! No doubt, the standing mannequin looks vaguely like these tasty boys, but we’re sticking by our convictions…no one would ever make the connection between those mannys and those models…but the one sitting down, that is Paisley’s bowl cut! P.S. We couldn’t find which ‘Brandon’ they were talkin about…too many male models by that name!
